Hey Joe! Sounds like you are very fond of your backyard gopher tortoise. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a web page with advice for people who find gopher tortoises in their backyard. (Not Full grown) Over time it now eats from my hand occasionally — Romaine Lettuce, cucumbers raw, corn on cob, etc. I mow the yard leaving it strips of Grass — “Florida Snow.” I do have a cluster of palmettos with berries now, but just not sure if he should be in another environment. Should I Call Wildlife Refuge or leave him be to go when he wants? Fence could be gone under if need be?

I try to keep people from driving on it to protect the many gopher turtle burrows that are on it. I have two 24″ x 24″ sign holders I put on the property but can’t find any place to get signs to put in them notifying people that it is protected area for gopher turtles.
